True Botanicals recently came out with a sugar exfoliating body scrub and I just had to try it. I have always been very interested in sugar scrubs and I’ve tried many but they have always failed me. Something about the sugar melting way too fast and it just turning into mush before it can actually get any good scrubbing in and it always leaving a weird film on my skin.
Well…that was my experience before I tried this baby out.
First of all can we just admire how beautiful the packaging is? For sure a piece of body care I want to keep out on my counter for everyone to see. On top of beauty all of True Botanicals skincare is packaged in recyclable packaging, including this. The shipping materials can also be easily recycled which makes my heart extremely happy.
Second of all let’s talk about what is in this gem and what it claims to do.
These are the KEY INGREDIENTS:
- ORGANIC SUGAR which is a natural source of glycolic acid, an alpha hydroxy acid (aha) that penetrates and breaks down dead and flaky skin, encouraging cell turnover and generating fresher, younger-looking skin. sugar is also a natural humectant, so it helps skin retain moisture and stay hydrated, making it ideal for sloughing away dead skin naturally without disrupting skin barrier function.
- SANDALWOOD POWDER which is a super fine, skin barrier-friendly powder that exfoliates, helps alleviate flakiness, clear blocked pores, and is said to have antibacterial properties, making it very beneficial for rough and blemish-prone skin. it also imparts a light, pleasant aroma that is warm, woodsy and sweet.
- WHITE KAOLIN CLAY which has proven therapeutic benefits. White clay is the most mild and gentle of clays, perfect for sensitive skin since it gently cleanses, purifies and detoxifies pores, removing dirt, grime and residue that can build up on your skin, without striping the skin of natural oils. this detoxifying clay helps to cushion the sugar and provide a nice balancing effect.
This scrub claims to deliver a luxurious and highly effective all over body exfoliations without disrupting your skin carrier. The formula is a blend of natural and nourishing ingredients that work together to scrub away dead skin cells so all you are left with is soft and smooth and glowing skin. True Botanicals combined two different particle sizes- organic sugar and finely milled sandalwood powder in a whipped cocoon of kaolin clay. They also somehow managed to pack in three antioxidant rich, nutritive oils – organic camellia, hemp seed and jojoba oil- and glycerin to provide ultra rich hydration, conditioning and a heaping of essential fatty acids that protect, nourish and support the skin barrier.
It was created to be good for all skin types and addresses rough texture, dryness, dullness and bumps.
Below is the full ingredient list:
Sucrose*, Glycerin*, Simmondsia Chinensis (Jojoba) Seed Oil*, Camellia Sinensis (Green Tea)*, Camellia Olieifera (Camellia) Seed Oil*, Cannabis Sativa (Hemp) Seed Oil*, Kaolin, Cetearyl Olivate, Sorbitan Olivate, Amyris Balsamifera Bark Oil, Citrus Aurantium Dulcis (Orange) Peel Oil, Juniperus Mexicana (Cedarwood) Oil, Pogostemon Cablin Oil, Santalum Austrocaledonicum (Sandalwood) Oil, Bulnesia Sarmienti Wood Oil, Cinnamomum Zeylanicum Leaf Oil, Santalum Spicatum (Sandalwood) Powder, Xanthan Gum, Citric Acid.
Now let’s talk about how it actually worked for me and why I love it.
I first tried this out while taking a bath and I couldn’t believe how dreamy the formula was. It was creamy, is was textured and smooth at the same time. I love how easily I could distribute this over my body, exfoliate and moisturize at the same time. The sugar eventually melted away while the milled sandalwood stayed behind doing the micro fine tuning to my skin. I didn’t feel the need to scrub really hard or really fast to get the job done. I was able to relax and scrub away while I thrived in the smell (which is of a spa I cannot afford). My skin felt so supple and nourished but my absolute favorite part of this scrub was the fact that it did not make my tub slippery. The selected oils in this scrub are light and are small enough molecularly to be absorbed into skin therefore there is nothing that washes off of the body and onto the shower floor/tub floor.
My final thoughts: if you love body scrubs, this will very quickly become your holy grail! You can thank me later.
