Fivelements Spa Bali Review | Rutele

I really do not believe that today could have been more perfect…

When I set my eyes on Bali I knew I wanted my days to be relaxing and what better way to relax than visiting a spa?

I did a lot of research online and reached out to a lot of places to inquire about prices and locations. In the end I narrowed it down to Fivelements. The atmosphere just seemed so tranquil, the prices were moderate and the flower baths looked to die for.

BACKGROUND:

Fivelements is an eco conscious wellness retreat which is mainly why I was drawn to it from the first glance. The healing and spa facility is inspired by the old and new Balinese way of life which is described as “nurturing harmony among spirit, human and nature”. The resort is located half an hour outside of Ubud. If you would like to read more about the hotel and spa, click here.

MY EXPERIENCE:

This is what the view from my spa room looked like. The whole establishment is right next to the Ayung River and pretty far away from any main streets, so the only sounds you hear here are the rushing of the water, the wind in the trees and the singing of birds.

The spa treatment started with me changing into a bath robe and meeting my masseuse on the deck. She prepared a foot bath filled with sea salt, spices, limes and flowers. After washing my feet she massaged them and we moved on inside for the actual Balinese body massage.

Before the actual healing began, she asked me to hold my hands out and close my eyes. She then put her hands on top of mine and let our energies flow together. This was a process of joining our flows and connecting on a more spiritual level.

She presented me with three different options for a body scrub: sacred spice (tumeric), cinnamon-coffee or authentic Balinese (nutmeg). I ended up picking the nutmeg one…something about that smell just makes me feel comfortable. These powerful local herbs are combined with powdered rice and then be applied to free your skin from dead cells and promote circulation after the massage is performed.

The next hour and twenty minutes she massaged my whole body, starting from the feet and moving up. Half way through, she had me flip from my front to my back. Balinese massages are very relaxing and focus mainly on skin rolling and firm/gentle stroking. Essential oils are also widely incorporated. For this particular massage she used coconut oil, which smelled heavenly. Balinese massages are strongly influenced by medicinal systems of India, China and Southeast Asia. I have to admit that as much as I enjoyed Thai massages, this was by far the best massage I have ever received. It was so much more personal, sensual and adjusted to what my body needed.

After the massage, she combined my body scrub and applied it all over my skin. This was painful but so necessary. It awoke my skin and cleared away anything that was holding on. Let’s just say my skin has never felt so smooth and happy. img_3533

After the scrub she prepared the bath for me, which was absolutely the part that I was the most excited about. The water was infused with Ahumsa bath oil and colorful Balinese flowers. I got to soak in this glory for a good 40 minutes and it was just as magical as I had imagined. The view was stunning (the trees and the Ayung river), the sounds were calming and the water felt euphoric on my skin. I finally felt like the princess that I was born to be…bathing in flowers just because I can.

MY THOUGHTS:

The whole spa experience lasted two full hours but I could have continued it all day long. I personally feel like this was on the same level as my trip to Singapore and you all know how I feel about that one. It was a dream, a magical dream. Yes Fivelements is pricey, I cannot and will not sit here and say that it is affordable for everyone because it is not, but because this is something that I really wanted to do, I saved up and invested in my health, which I do believe everyone should do (at least once in a while). My mind, my spirit, my soul and especially my body thanked me. I felt extremely relaxed, worry free and renewed. I really wish that everyone could experience that for themselves. I would 100% recommend Fivelements to anyone who is visiting Bali and specifically Ubud, since its the closest to that city. The location is superb, the staff is very knowledgeable and professional and the service is ever more extraordinary.

Here are some more shots that I managed to snap.

How Yoga Has Changed My Life | Rutele

For years I was always too afraid to practice yoga.

“Your life is a sacred journey. It is about change, growth, discovery, movement, transformation, continuously expanding your vision of what is possible, stretching your soul, learning to see clearly and deeply, listening to your intuition, taking courageous challenges at every step along the way. You are on the path… exactly where you are meant to be right now… And from here, you can only go forward, shaping your life story into a magnificent tale of triumph, of healing, of courage, of beauty, of wisdom, of power, of dignity, and of love.”

If you scroll on Yogi pages on Instagram or FaceBook or anywhere on the internet, they all look very advanced and intimidating. I always had this silly feeling that they would show you up in classes and make you look like a fool because you can’t do what they can do. I also didn’t think I was strong enough and I have always struggled with balance. I literally can’t even walk in a straight line lol so that always deterred me as well.

After my last break up, I felt like I needed to start doing something for myself. I wanted some kind of healthy escape from my thoughts and my feelings. Working out and running have always sufficed but when it came to this, it just wasn’t enough. I wanted to break free from the torture of my mind and I thought, you know maybe this is the right time to really push myself. I am not quite sure how I narrowed it down to yoga, but to be honest it has been my golden ticket.

Without even noticing, Yoga has drastically improved not just my mental health but also my physical health.

My mind is ALWAYS going a million different directions and I am the biggest over thinker. I will literally make something that means nothing into a huge deal and always think of the worst scenario because for some reason my brain is just inclined to do that. Every session that I attend frees me from the chains of my thoughts. For at least that hour I am completely focusing on my body and what it needs, instead of thinking about everything that is happening around me or my personal life. That alone is enough for me to say that Yoga has drastically changed my life.

Besides the mental benefit, my body is stronger, I have more balance and I have toned up drastically. Just a session a week over the course of a few months has helped me get into better shape. If anyone tells you that Yoga is easy and is only for females, they are literally the most uneducated and biased person ever (you should probably not talk to them lol). It always dumbfounds me to see how huge the attending ratio between women and men is. Every class that I have been to only has a couple of guys in it. Ya’ll are missing out!

Here is a list of other ways that Yoga can improve your life:

  • Increases Patience
  • Increases Endurance
  • Increases Concentration
  • Helps Flexibility
  • Betters Posture
  • Increases Blood Flow
  • Relaxes your System
  • Increases Self Esteem

I am no where near how advanced I would like to be one day and there is always so much room for improvement but I am moving towards the right direction. Yoga is not a trend, yoga is a way to better your life for the better in so many ways and if I regret anything in my life it is how I have let fear control my life, especially in the aspect of starting my yoga practice.

It is never too late to start.

Barnyard Yoga with Goats

Hello my beautifuls,

Ah this may have been the best day of my life! A couple of Sundays ago I attended this amazing yoga session out on a goat farm. It was about a 30 minute drive from where I live but worth every minute.

The place is called BarnYard Yoga and this is their FaceBook page in case you are in the area (Lehigh) and want to sign up. One spot is $20 dollars and they usually hold this every Sunday.

What to Expect:

You are encouraged to show up an hour before the set yoga session time (6PM), but it is up to you when you want to show up. This hour is basically for getting to know the goats. You can play with them, feed them, hold them, take pictures with them and just fall in love in general.

The goats range in age from little month old goats (they smelled like milk and were literally the softest thing I have ever touched) to older and mature goats.

The GPS will most likely take you to a closed gate that says do not trespass, both my Siri and Google Maps did that. Pull out of there and drive to the next street over. You will see an open gate with a winding road to a huge Old Style Florida house.

This property is absolutely gorgeous.

You can park anywhere on the grass. Once you park, walk on over to the check in table. Check in, get your bag of food and roam around.

Now the bigger goats tend to stay in the fenced in area where the actual yoga takes place. The cuter and smaller goats are roaming around free outside where the check in is. The little baby goats are much nicer and a lot more playful while the older goats can be a tad sassy. There will always be a leader that kind of runs the show so they keep that away at first.

When I say these goats are hilarious, I really mean there is no way to not laugh at them. They play around with each other, nibble on everything, head butt you and jump around all over the place. It is so cute. The smaller babies totally love to be held and scratched. Watch the video below!

Once your hour with the cutie pies is done, you will move into the fenced in area and set up for the yoga. Beware, the bigger goats are here and they are hungryyy! Once they have enough food, they mellow out and just kind of graze all over the place.

The yoga itself is pretty much beginner and very easy. It’s a light class that focuses mainly on breathing. Even though I would have liked to be pushed more, they do time it with the sunset and right now the weather is beyond amazing so that whole not doing enough work is not even a negative at this point. You really don’t even have to do yoga, you can just hang out on your mat and play with the goats that come around. It is completely up to you.My Thoughts:

The only negative that I can think of was the fact that anyone who did not purchase a ticket is not allowed to stay and wait for the yoga to be over.

Overall, this was worth my money, it was worth my time and was really a superb experience. I really do love goats and playing with them and interacting with them was really beyond anything that I could have imagined.

I give this place a huge thumbs up and I will be coming back for more sessions.

I woke up like this…FLAWLESS | Skincare

Mona, thank you for this awesome topic request! If you want flawless skin, keep on reading, I promise you will not regret it!!

I am thankful for the fact that I have been blessed with pretty peaceful skin. All throughout puberty I did not have many problems besides the mild breakouts due to hormonal fluctuations and those annoying blackheads. Although I didn’t have acne to take of, I was always very diligent about preserving my skins beauty. Your skin is something that you will literally live with the rest of your life, therefore making sure to take really good care of is essential in looking youthful and radiant.

I have combination skin, oily in the T-Zone and normal/dry everywhere else. Which makes it pretty difficult to find products that cater to both needs, but I think I have done a solid job. Just as with anything, gosh there were so many trial and errors, and with so many great products out there, its hard to stick to just one line. But below is my night and mourning routine. Enjoy 😀

IMG_3263

Night Routine:

  1. Using the Boscia MakeUp-BreakUp Cool Cleansing oil I break down all of the makeup on my face. I use 1 to 2 pumps and gently rub all over my face then rinse it with luke warm water. IMG_3270
  2. Using any make up wipe of your choice (I use generic ones from Costco, can be off brand, the residue off of the wipe will be washed off) I gently remove all of the eye make up.
  3. Using a pea sized amount of the Purity One Step Facial Cleanser I start my Clarisonic and work in the cleanser. The Clarisonic is programmed to be on for a minute. Use that minute to wash your face in soft, circular motions. Don’t forget the neck. IMG_3268
  4. I then wash my face with warm water and pat dry.
  5. Once a week or sometimes every two weeks I will use a blackhead strip. As I have mentioned in my Holy Grails post, I use the Dr. Jart+ strips. These could be used after washing your face with the Clarisonic or after a long and steamy shower. IMG_3265
  6. If I have break outs, I use the Out of Trouble Mask by Origins. This significantly reduces any redness or blemishes. If a blemish is being really stubborn, put a small amount on it and keep it overnight. By morning time, it should be less problematic. IMG_3267
  7. Then I apply a heavier moisturizer before bed. The skin works the hardest when you sleep, so might as well give it the nutrients that it needs. I personally use the A Perfect World by Origins. It is infused with White Tea which hydrates the skin like there is no tomorrow! IMG_3266
  8. Lastly, I exfoliate my lips with the Satin Lips mask by Mary Kay. I take a pea sized amount and scrub my lips with it. The cream should sit on your lips for about 5 minutes. Afterwards, I wipe it off with a makeup wipe and apply the Satin Lips lip balm. Voilà, after these steps the lips feel like fluffy pillows. IMG_3271

Morning Routine:

  1. Using the Checks and Balances face wash by Origins, I wash my face with cold water (using my hands). This gently removes any access oils and also wakes me up.IMG_3269
  2. I then immediately apply any lightweight moisturizer that I have.

On top of these daily steps I do go get facials every 6 weeks. Makeup, stress and pollution all play a vital role in clogging the pores therefore it’s important to go to a professional. I usually go with a microdermabrasion or even a very slight face peel. If live in SWF, I have the best esthetician, ask me and I will give you the details!

I would love to hear your tricks and routines too! I am always looking to improve this routine. Let me know down below!

XOXO, Ruta.
